General Comment The Violent femmes They are just the ultimate alternative band, perhaps the first real alternative band of the 80's.
Anyways, this song is about suicide. The person singing it says "I need someone, a person to talk to The counting lines is him counting the pills he is taking to OD and giving the reason for taking each pill.. He is telling the world to "kiss off" because he thinks he will show everybody by killing himself. General Comment I always felt this song wasn't necessarily about suicide.
If you look at the lyrics, it could just as easily be about drug addiction, using pills to plug a hole in your life. My Opinion 1. This behavior doesn't go over well in public and as a consequence he frequently gets beaten up but he is used to it.
He gets sent to the principle's office. It turns out the principle is a child molester and he rapes the boy in his office. General Comment I always thought the line was "Nine for I lost count" just because it went along with the whole "I forget what eight is for" thing. A friend gave me the cd, but not the jewel case, so I don't know if it ever had the lyrics in there or what. Innywho, I really love this song, the first time I heard it I thought he was just yelling at some girl that broke his heart.
I didn't listen to the lyrics very well, but it reminded me of the old saying of "One for the money, two for the show So I did'nt really associate it with actually, phyisically taking anything. It's strange because this song is just so energetic, listening to it always makes me happy, yet the lyrics are so sad.
I guess there are quite a few songs like that though General Comment I started to listen to this song right after my first real love dumped me, i kinda feel that the counting is lining up the shots before drinking them And seeking oblivion from memories by drinking and such stuff, so i can se the sense in it being pills instead of shots And the part whit: You can all just kiss off into the air Behind my back I can see them stare They'll hurt me bad but I won't mind They'll hurt me bad, they do it all the time I could also relate to at the time as almost all my freinds i had met trhu her, and now they wouldn't talk to me anymore General Comment I could be wrong, but I think it's "5 for my loneliness", not "lonely and".
General Comment I've always thought this song was about struggling with depression. I believe this song is out of chronological order, for me it's easier to see the meaning of the story in this order. He's in such a deep state of depression that he will attach himself to anyone that shows him the slightest bit of attention, hoping that they will be his savior, prove him wrong that there's still someone out there that's worth sticking around for.
Hey kid you're sick, well darling this is it. It just ends up making things worse. He realizes that it's just a temporary fix for all of his problems. He chooses to finally just end his life, goodbye, "this is it. He's done caring about what they think, letting them affect him.
He's finally just become numb to it all. I was attempting some of your ideals in a short sentence. It touches me in a way that people with a mental illness are not accepted by a scrutinizing, non-understanding and "ill" informed society.
Maybe the individual is deciding to stop his own denial and finally taking steps towards his own wellness. I think the inevitable "kiss off" to others is the first step in the right direction. Obviously, the "normals" have been saying it to him for a long time. Oh, I forgot, the list does match my med intake and the situations are all too true Flag patrat on December 03, General Comment it's a super good song.
General Comment Violent Femmes are the shiznit. Awesome, they are. For me anyways. Rate These Lyrics. Log in now to add this track to your mixtape! We do not have any tags for Kiss Off lyrics. Why not add your own? Log in to add a tag. More Violent Femmes Lyrics.

Perhaps the greatest encapsulation of teenage-geek angst the Violent Femmes ever performed and there were some strong contenders , "Kiss Off" was by turns funny, playful, vulnerable, heartbreaking, combative, furious, self-conscious, despairing, hopeful, and hopeless. It's no mean feat to wedge such emotional complexity into a song less than three minutes long, especially a song with one, maybe two sections that might be considered verses.
Like the rest of the group's now-legendary debut, "Kiss Off" is simple, ragged, acoustic folk-rock, but it hits with a gut-churning, deeply cathartic intensity. Singer Gordon Gano can switch from a quivering murmur to a plaintive wail in the very next line, or turn up the nasal quality of his voice when he wants to project more attitude.
It's really the only way to do justice to the lyrics, which express a sort of geeky-misfit angst that had never been articulated this nakedly in popular music the ultra-detached Devo probably came the closest.
There's sort of a justified paranoia here, in that the singer expects to be treated with undisguised contempt, and often is. Yet in the midst of all this pain and confusion, he draws a curious strength from his acceptance of or, perhaps, resignation to the torment.
There's a real certainty to his place in the social structure, and it provides a clear identity that can be defiantly accepted if not quite embraced. The famous count-off chant in the middle -- a tremendously catchy lyrical gimmick -- makes clear, though, that the singer's feelings about his status are still quite conflicted. Each number corresponds to something wrong with his life -- except eight, which, in the middle of an otherwise gloomy recitation, he playfully "forgets.
